World Day 2022
1st October saw Pasley Park transformed into a Community Festival. While David pumped out tunes, under a celestial blue sky, stalls lined the centre path, selling goods such as Irish Sea Moss, beauty products, homemade jams and chutneys, jewellery, soft toys, plants together with knitted and crocheted items produced by the talented members of Newington TRA, or offered information from organisations such as the Sickle Cell Society, The Giving Lab and Southwark Parks.
The army demonstrated CPR techniques with their ambulance to a young audienceIf you wished, you could consult the tarot cards with the Woman of Mystery or even have your face painted.
The Oli Juste Dog Show:
The Hound Hut in Kennington brought their supply of canine goods and came to support the Oli Juste dog show, run this year by Siriol and Trevor, and it proved as popular as ever.
Entertainment:
The drummers drummed and danced and were joined by members of the audience. Young dancers from SuperArts, twisted and turned and entertained the crowds,
as did Yudapari, with their very graceful latin dancing. Members of People’s Company performed a short play (commissioned for the event) about Mary Seacole, who had a connection to the Royal Surrey Gardens, where the park is now situated

Whilst Art in the Park used this link to run an art workshop based around Mrs. Seacole and her life and travels, wherein the portrait of her by 3 young people was produced.
Food and Beverage:
We were fed with food from Africa (via Bev), the Caribbean (courtesy of Serena), Columbian street food, tea and cakes from St. Paul’s Church and were watered by the Community Pub. Actually, the beer and rum punches, rather than water, came in for high praise, as did the games and activities organised in the tradition of old pubs.
Friends of Pasley Park and Southwark Kaleidoscope joined forces this year to produce this event, bringing together the local community to showcase the talents, interests and diversity abundant in Walworth, in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere and to bring to notice some history of the area too. Oh, and the sun shone all day long and highlighted how lucky we are to live in such a rich and diverse community.
